Forum: feature_films Subject: a pretty good western

I just finishing watching on Encore Western, a picture about Confedrates held prisoners at a prisoner of war camp in New Mexico. The commandant (Ward Bond) makes the ptisoner dig for water in this cave and the main character is a veternaran named Handley (Sterling Hayden) who the commandant thinks is a confederate guerilla who along with others killed many union soldiers at one of the battles of the civil war. Basically a war/prison picture, there is alot of injustice and cruelity; as cruel as you get for a film made in 1953. The film also stars James Arness and Robert Wilkie. The film was made by Lippert pictures and music was scored (I think) by resident composer Ferd'e Grofe. Is this film P.D. ? If so, could you get it, please? Thanks so much for reading this.

VCI Entertainment has been putting out a lot of Lippert films on DVD in the past few years, including a number of westerns and several film noir collections. So that's likely your best bet to get this movie, unless you record it off the air yourself.

Good to hear! I actually didn't check to see if this specific film was available on DVD, but I knew about VCI and their many Lippert releases. Great news! :)
